Judges of New Brunswick and Their Times
By Joseph Wilson Lawrence. When first conceived in the 1870s, Judges of New Brunswick was to be
the first book-length study of New Brunswick history. It was intended as nothing less than a general
constitutional and political history of the province to 1867, focusing on the Loyalist period and the
agitation for responsible government and told through the vehicle of judicial biographies. While
Judges of New Brunswick and their Times was cast in the form of nineteen biographies of men who
happened to end their careers on the Bench, its main concern was with the "Times" rather than the
"Judges". 552 pages. Hardcover.
